The Jamaica Beach Police Department was established by City Council in 1978. The first police chief was the only employee, on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and most of the dispatching was done by volunteers. Today, a chief, three sergeants, and 16 police officers staff the department, and the dispatching is contracted to the Galveston Police Department.
The Jamaica Beach Police Department provides 24 hour patrolling of our streets, additionally operates a beach and a marine division to protect our waterways. Our well-staffed, well-equipped department has given Jamaica Beach the reputation of one of the safest areas to live in Texas.
